No injuries were reported after a semi trailer caught fire near Emporia early Wednesday.

The fire developed near at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 124 northbound, or three miles southwest of Emporia. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says brakes overheated under the trailer, causing the wood deck to catch fire. The fire then spread to the load of PVC pipe.

The trailer was heavily damaged and the load of pipe was around 40 percent damaged to destroyed.

The truck was on its way from Texas to Minnesota. Air temperatures were in the teens and wind chills were near zero during the firefighting effort.
